NEED LEGAL HELP?
ILAP provides immigration related legal
assistance to low-income immigrants and their families in the State of Maine.
ILAP has legal staff who are bilingual in English and Spanish, and has in-house
interpretation services in French and Somali, with other languages available
through telephonic interpretation.
ILAP’s services are free or low-fee depending upon income. The low-fees that
ILAP charges help sustain our ability to offer our services. However, no one
will be turned away due to inability to pay.
PLEASE NOTE: ILAP has a new way of meeting with new clients, or with former clients whose cases have already been completed but who have new questions or issues.
Beginning October 3, 2008, you may either call 780-1590 or 1-800-497-8505, or come in person at these times:
- Tuesdays from 1:00 – 5:00
- Fridays from 10:00 – 1:00
An ILAP volunteer will ask you questions about your issue and the type of help you need. If you have any relevant paperwork, please bring it with you if you come in person. If you call, and no one is available, we will ask you to leave a phone number and we will call you back.
NOTE: You will NOT meet with an attorney on the same day the volunteer takes your information. Instead, you will receive a call the next week to set up an appointment to meet with a lawyer, as needed.
