Action Alert:
Not One More Cent for ICE and Border Patrol!
In the days ahead, Congress will be considering a budget reconciliation bill that would provide an additional $70 billion for immigration enforcement. This is in addition to the $170 billion taxpayer dollars allocated for immigration enforcement just last year.
The proposal includes:
$38 billion for ICE enforcement operations
$26 billion for Customs and Border Protection (Border Patrol), including increased surveillance
$5 billion for the Department of Homeland Security slush fund
$1.5 billion for the Department of Justice to administer and enforce immigration laws
Every day, ILAP is responding to immigration arrests in Maine. Maine residents are facing inhumane conditions in detention centers, are at risk of life-threatening deportation, families are torn apart, and Maine’s communities are losing beloved members and essential workers. So many have withdrawn from public life, afraid to send children to school, to go to work, seek medical care, practice religions, and move freely.
Join ILAP in calling on Maine’s Members of Congress to vote NO on any additional funding for unchecked immigration enforcement.
A NOTE FOR IMMIGRANT COMMUNITIES: Noncitizens and citizens alike can take part in these actions. Maine's Representatives and Senators represent all of us, regardless of immigration status. You do not need to identify your immigration status when contacting your State Representatives. If you are a noncitizen, you can leave out personal details that might identify you. As always, stay safe and make the decision that is right for you.
