Immigration agencies must act NOW in the face of the COVID-19 crisis

March 27, 2020

Immigration agencies must act NOW in the face of the COVID-19 crisis. Despite stay-at-home orders in many cities and states, immigration courts are still open for in-person detained cases when technology could be used instead. Moreover, half of those detained by ICE are being held for only civil immigration violations, and ICE is refusing to use its broad discretion to release individuals from its custody.

You can make a difference! Call Maine's Congressional delegation and demand that the Department of Justice close in-person detained courts and that ICE release individuals from its custody in order to mitigate the spread of COVID-19.
