The United States government is offering South Sudanese people who are currently in the U.S. Temporary Protected Status (TPS)
What is TPS?
TPS gives people temporary protection from deportation, legal status, and an Employment Authorization Card (work permit). TPS is temporary; the current designation of South Sudanese TPS is only for 18 months and ends on November 3, 2023. After that time, the U.S. government can extend TPS or choose to end it
Do I Qualify for Sudan TPS?
You may qualify for South Sudan TPS if:
You are a citizen of South Sudan
You have been in the U.S. since March 1, 2022 or earlier
* Certain crimes can make you ineligible for TPS *
I want to apply for TPS for the first time:
To apply for TPS, you will need:
A South Sudan passport, birth certificate, or national ID;
A visa, even if expired, passport stamp, NTA, or any other immigration paperwork;
Documents showing you have been the U.S. since March 1, 2022 such as medical records, leases, work, or school records;
Records for any arrests, charges, and criminal court cases you may have in the U.S. at any time

To renew your TPS, you will need
A copy of your most recently filed TPS application;
Your current work permit card;
Records for any arrests, charges, and criminal court cases you may have in the U.S. at any time.
