The Biden administration announced executive actions this week that will provide new pathways to citizenship for mixed status families and remove barriers to employment for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients and DACA-eligible youth. The policies will change the lives of many here in Maine and across the country, estimated to impact close to half a million people.
“We thank the Biden administration for taking much-needed action to invest in immigrant families and youth who have been integral members of our communities for years. The immediate and generational harms of family separation are clear, and these announcements are an important step toward keeping families together and safe, bringing immigrants out of legal limbo, and ensuring immigrant communities haves what they need to dream and build a future here in the U.S.” says Executive Director Sue Roche.
“Biden’s announcement will change the lives of many here in Maine and across the country. This hard-won victory is a testament to the decades-long collective advocacy of immigrant community members, immigrant-led and allied organizations, and advocates, to whom we extend our gratitude and appreciation.”
ILAP applauds the Biden administration for taking this definitive step toward justice, while we continue to call for permanent protections for all undocumented people and an immigration system that upholds the rights and dignity of all who navigate it.”
Please note: These opportunities are NOT yet available to immigrants. ILAP will share more details and information about eligibility for Maine immigrant communities soon.
