about the event

VOLUNTEER & PARTNER AWARDS

Celebrate this year's awardees!

ILAP will present our 2023 Volunteer and Partner Awards. Each awardee will receive a plaque featuring the Adinkra symbol for Bravery, designed by Ebenezer Akakpo of Akakpo & Co.

ABRAZOS FILM SCREENING

Connect with ILAP’s mission!

A screening of Abrazos will follow the awards ceremony. The film tells the transformational journey of a group of U.S. citizen children who travel from Minnesota to Guatemala to meet their grandparents - and in some instances their siblings - for the first time.

LOCAL FOOD & DRINKS

Enjoy flavors from our favorite restaurants!

Try bites from local, immigrant-owned restaurants while connecting with others who are passionate about ILAP’s work. The SPACE bar will be open and your first drink is on us!

your impact

Together, we accomplished a lot in 2023:

  • ILAP provided direct legal support and education to 4,547 immigrants across Maine and impacted the lives of many more through systemic advocacy.

  • Pro bono attorneys donated 3,620 hours of their time on cases for asylum seekers and vulnerable immigrant youth, valued at $1,156,848. Mental health professionals volunteered their time to conduct evaluations to strengthen our clients' cases.

  • Our Asylum Assistance and Legal Orientation Project (AALOP) provided individualized screenings/legal consultations to 628 individuals and assisted 129 asylum applicants in preparing and filing asylum applications.

  • ILAP held 108 community events, attended by 2,233 immigrant community members and service providers.

  • ILAP endorsed 42 policy recommendation letters and joint public comments and became a founding member of the #LetAsylumSeekersWork national campaign, aimed at removing barriers to work permits for asylum seekers.

  • And more!

We couldn’t have done this all without you! To our partner organizations, language volunteers, pro bono attorneys, administrative, legal, and medical volunteers, board members, grassroots fundraisers, committee members, and supporters - thank you!
