ILAP Statement of Solidarity with Black Community Members

The COVID-19 pandemic is killing Black community members and devastating communities of color. Black Americans live in fear of being harmed or killed by police, immigration authorities, or their white neighbors.

Everyone in our country should be treated with dignity and have the freedom to jog, bird watch, sleep, and spend time with loved ones. Everyone deserves to live free from the fear of violence.

There is much work to be done to achieve this vision in our communities and in our state. We must all work together to call out and stand against systemic racism and white supremacy, including within our immigrant justice movement. We must hold our government accountable.

ILAP demands justice and is committed to standing with and following the lead of Maine’s Black leaders and community members, now and in the future. We say loud and clear, “Black lives matter.” Join us.
