President Biden and Congress are working on new laws that would allow many people to get legal status, and green cards.
THESE LAWS ARE NOT IN EFFECT YET.* IT IS VERY UNCERTAIN WHAT THESE LAWS WILL SAY IF THEY DO PASS. But the new laws are certain to ask for proof of people working and living in the U.S., paying taxes etc.
While we wait, it may be wise to do this, if you or someone in your family may want to use these laws:
SAVE/GET/COPY ANY PAPERWORK that shows dates or places you have WORKED. Ask each employer to give you records of all the times and places you worked for them.
SAVE/GET/COPY ANY PAPERWORK that shows dates or places you have LIVED in the U.S.
SAVE/GET/COPY ANY PAPERWORK that shows you paid TAXES. SAVE/GET/COPY PAPERWORK showing ARRESTS or COURT in any state, including for charges that were dismissed.
DO THIS EVEN IF YOU HAVE USED A NAME OR DOCUMENT OR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER THAT IS NOT REAL OR NOT YOURS.
