ILAP's Election Response

Undaunted & Determined: ILAP Remains Fierce Advocate for Maine’s Immigrant Communities

This year’s election carried enormous weight for immigrant families and the future of immigration. In its aftermath, ILAP joined with our partners to express our unyielding care for and commitment to Maine’s immigrant communities.

We shared this message directly with Maine’s immigrant community members: “You are respected. You are valued. You are needed. You embody what is special and great about this country. Nothing can change that. By choosing to make Maine your home, you have made it a better home for all of us.”

ILAP remains committed to standing shoulder-to-shoulder with immigrant communities here in Maine and across the country. We will not cease in our mission to fight for a more just and humane immigration system and to provide immigration legal services that transform lives.

“Despite the threats of mass deportation, we have a legal system and due process rights,” says Executive Director Sue Roche. “ILAP and other immigration advocates will fiercely defend the rights of our clients and immigrant communities.”

ILAP has been a steadfast advocate for immigrant communities for over 30 years. The re-election of former President Trump makes our work more challenging. But we face the future undaunted and determined. We know that, together, our community is equipped with the resilience, commitment, and courage to continue defending and advancing justice for immigrants.
