Pro Bono Highlight
At a time when the rights of immigrants are increasingly under attack, securing asylum or another form of immigration protection is even more crucial and life-changing.
ILAP’s Legal Team provides support to immigrants across Maine and our capacity is greatly expanded by our network of volunteer attorneys. Over the last year, ILAP’s pro bono attorneys donated thousands of hours providing full representation or application assistance to asylum seekers and immigrant youth.
Join us in celebrating some recent wins from our Asylum Pro Bono Panel:
Paul Williams helped five immigrant youth in removal proceedings terminate their removal cases, providing protection from deportation and a chance to build a future in Maine.
Ron Kreisman and Kat Joyce worked together to prepare a compelling case for their client who was granted asylum this spring. Tara Walker and Amber Attalla were also incredible advocates for their client who won their asylum case at the Boston Asylum Office.
David Potel, Jane Makela, and Chrissie Fernandez each secured asylum wins and much-needed protection for their clients.
Chris Boots worked with ILAP on a years-long asylum case, recently resulting in the reunification of a family who had endured many years of separation.
We celebrate the importance of these wins while recognizing they are not proof of a just immigration system. Rather, these examples highlight the importance and need for access to trusted immigration legal help.
