1. ILAP’S Self-Help ASYLUM MANUAL

ILAP maintains a free step-by-step guide for individuals without lawyers called “How to Apply for Asylum in the United States.” Below, you'll find links to the PDF of the manual in Arabic, English, French and Spanish.


ILAP also created a five-part video series (below) to be used alongside this manual. It covers the different aspects of the asylum application process in French and English.


2. Self-Help ASYLUM VIDEO SERIES

In partnership with the University of Maine School of Law’s Refugee and Human Rights Clinic, ILAP created a five-part video series that covers the different parts of the asylum application process. Links to these videos in English and French are here:

The third video in the series walks the applicant through best practices and tips for drafting the personal declaration. (This is the applicant’s story summarizing the harm they faced and the harm they fear and why they suffered that harm.)

5. PAIR’S Self-Help ASYLUM MANUAL

Included on the UNHCR website is a “Pro Se Asylum Manual” prepared by the Political Asylum/Immigration Representation (PAIR) Project with help from the Massachusetts Law Reform Institute and Greater Boston Legal Services. It was created for people who do not have a lawyer to help them prepare an application for asylum and withholding of removal. Below, you’ll find links to the PDF of the manual in English and Spanish:
